[OCOSH Code: D004550 309464009 S42.4 S52.0 S52.1 WI_FR_EL_C]
Elbow fracture dislocations present a variety of problems. Instability with recurrent anterior subluxation can arise when the injury destroys both the radial head and the coronoid buttress. In this case, the patient sustained an elbow fracture-dislocation with a comminuted radial head fracture and 50% coronoid fracture.

The term floating elbow was first introduced by Stanitski and Micheli to describe an injury pattern in children involving concomitant fractures of the forearm axis and supracondylar humerus in the same extremity. This description has been extended to adult patients who sustain ipsilateral fractures of the humerus and forearm.
