Description: Johnson & Johnson issued the DePuy ASR hip recall in 2010 after data revealed extremely high hip replacement failure rates, leading to painful and difficult revision surgery in patients. The DePuy ASR is a metal-on-metal hip implant intended to be a long-lasting option for younger and active patients. Instead, it led to serious complications like hip pain, infection, bone fracture, metal sensitivity and tissue damage from metallosis.
Foreign health regulators have advised against doctors using any kind of metal-on-metal hip replacement. More recently, in the US, the FDA convened a panel of experts to evaluate the dangers of metal hip implants like the DePuy ASR. Numerous orthopedic surgeons at the panel said they saw no good reason to use metal-on-metal implants. The DePuy ASR hip replacement was not the only metal hip device to raise such concerns.
Thousands of patients who suffered from a defective DePuy ASR hip are filing ASR hip recall lawsuits seeking compensation for their injuries. Learn more about the DePuy ASR hip recall and filing a hip lawsuit by visiting the DePuy ASR hip recall resource center
