[Orthopod] lesser toe congenital anomalies

Dear Friends I have recently seen 2 cases in a row with practically the same problem. Both were infants 4 , 5 months old. The mothers noticed an abnormal plantar position of a lesser toe in relation to the other toes - in one it was the 2nd toe, in the other, the 4th toe. It is not hammer toe, claw toe, or mallet toe. The toe is simply flexed at the MP joint. In one of the two cases, the 4th toe is not only flexed, but also curved sideways beneath the 3rd toe. I am sorry no pictures are available. In both cases the deformity is flexible and full passive correction is possible without pain. I feel it is more like an extensor lag. I advised both mother to do passive manipulation and re-evaluate as the infant starts walking. If the deformity persists, I would do a plication of the extensor digitorum longus. I would appreciate your input.
