[Orthopod] Re: periprosthetic humeral fr Can't Post

The other system, which I must admit I, personally, find more flexible
and easier to use is the Zimmer cable-readt.

The Dall Miles cable system manufactured by Stryker also has
plates with grooves in them so that cerclage cables passed over the

Almost the same effect can be obtained by passing cerclage wires
or cables over an ordinary plate and putting in unicortical screws in
adjacent holes to make sure the wire does not slip. As Prof Dharia
notes, cerclage has its drawbacks.
Has anyone done or seen a vascularity study to see if wires over
plates affects the blood supply as severely as wires alone?

this will require a long stem

trying the cable system may be dangerous
for the nerves around and it may devascularise the fragment..

Dear all
This patient who had a humeral head
replacement and did well for the last 4 years, got into a fight and
sustained this fracture.
What would be your advice? Please take
into consideration that cable-plate systems are unavailable/too
expensive.
