with due apology, The following facts in this case needs our attention. Son has complaint- mother has none. 3 years in bed with probably spastic hemiplagia with nonunion intra capsular fracture with absorption of head and neck. She is Ambulatory, may not be walking normally. What are her requirements - probably in dependency in ADL( activities of daily living) Which she is doing. Muscle power at the hip may be weak as well as spastic and soft tissue too tight. What are her chances of dislocation of THR? My basic aim in elderly is to make them ambulatory preferably with out much pain. As such pain perception in elderly is quite low. She seems to be coming from rural area. The risk V/s benefit is too high. In all probability I will reassure the son and forget about the patient. At least she is alive!!!!! with best wishes, Vinod Naneria Consultant orthopaedic surgeon Choithram Hospital & Research Centre, Indore, India http://www.slideshare.net/naneria __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
