Dear colleagues, ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Venkatachalam <akvenkat15@hotmail.com> To: <orthopod@googlegroups.com> CC: Created: Mon, 9 Apr 2007 22:23:31 +0530 Subject: [Orthopod] Re: Periprosthetic femoral shaft nonunion Dear Dr.Alex, The bridging plate is a weak constuct for angular stresses and hence the deformity. The best option would be a revision THR with an open mind. After exposure one should see the integrity of the cup which is not clearly visible here. The stem is in Valgus and hence the fracture. IT needs to be revised to a long stem like the Wagner system with its 8 fins or a Proximal fit modular stem from J& J. ( both uncemented) Once again plating is not a good option against bending stresses in the femur. Yours sincerely Dr.A.K.Venkatachalam MS, DNB, FRCS, MCh Orth( Liverpool) Consultant Orthopedic surgeon Chennai ---------- End of forwarded message ---------- -- -- Best regards, Alexander N.
