How to Claim a Resource on OWL

There are three methods by which a resource can get included in the OWL Directory. 1. Resource submitted by Resource Author Resources are often submitted by the resource author or resource institution with copyright for the resource. Once the resource is validated the resource author's name is shown on the detailed page for the resource. Only the resource author will be able to update the resource through their control panel. 2. Resource submitted by OWL Member Sometimes a resource is submitted to OWL by a member of the OWL Community. The OWL Member may include the resource author's name or resource institution during the submission process. The OWL Editors confirm this information during the validation process, however, sometimes a resource author's name or institution is not readily available and the name of the OWL Member will remain associated with the resource. 3. Resource submitted by OWL Editor Sometimes a resource is submitted to OWL by one of the OWL Editors. OWL Editors make every attempt to identify the resource author and resource institution and add a validated email address so that requests for more information will be directed to the appropriate individual. However, often OWL Editors are unable to identify an email address for the resource. These resources will show up with a resource author "admin". Steps to reques that a resource by added to your OWL Account: Step 1. If an Editor or Member added your name or institution to a resource you will see a "Claim Resource" link next to the Author's Name or Contact Name when you are logged into OWL. Step 2. To claim that resource and manage your own updates simply click on the "Claim Resource" link Step 3. Send us an email from an email address that contains the resource domain name with a brief explanation for why the resource should be turned over to you. NOTE: You will need to have an active OWL Account with the same email address for authentication purposes. Step 4. Once approved you will receive an e-mail and can update the information on that resource going forward. You need to claim each resource that you didn't add yourself individually or contact the OWL Editors if you have multiple resources you wish to claim. ______________________________________________ Christian Veillette M.D., FRCSC, M.Sc., B.Sc.(Hon) Deputy Editor & Directory of Technology Orthopaedic Web Links The Gateway to the Orthopaedic Internet http://www.orthopaedicweblinks.com ______________________________________________
