McGrath et al. (1997, 1999) described a boy with a unique skin disorder comprising trauma-induced skin fragility and congenital ectodermal dysplasia affecting hair, nails, and sweat glands. The proband reported by McGrath et al. (1997) was a 6-year-old boy with unrelated parents. There was no family history of skin blistering or other significant abnormalities. At birth, all of his skin was lobster pink, with blistering on the soles. Over the first 48 hours, he developed more severe blistering ...

Ectodermal Dysplasia (ED) is not a single disorder, but a group of closely related conditions. More than 150 different syndromes have been identified. The Ectodermal Dysplasias are heritable conditions in which there are abnormalities of two or more ectodermal structures such as the hair (tends to be very thin and sparse),teeth (absent, pointed or conical), nails, sweat glands (little or no sweating), cranial-facial structure, the eyes, digits and other parts of the body. Each combination of ...

Ectrodactyly-ectodermal dysplasia-cleft syndrome (EEC) is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by the triad of ectrodactyly, ectodermal dysplasia, and facial clefting (Celli, Duijf, Hamel, et al. 1999). Other features noted in association with EEC include vesicoureteral reflux, recurrent urinary tract infections (Ramirez, Lammer, 2004), obstruction of the nasolacrimal duct (Peterson-Falzone, Hardin-Jones, Karnell, 2001), decreased pigmentation of the hair and skin, missing or abnormal ...

Hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia is one of about 150 types of ectodermal dysplasia in humans. Before birth, these disorders result in the abnormal development of structures including the skin, hair, nails, teeth, and sweat glands.
Most people with hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia have a reduced ability to sweat (hypohidrosis) because they have fewer sweat glands than normal or their sweat glands do not function properly. Sweating is a major way that the body controls its temperature; as ...
