Description: DEFINITIONS & PROCEDURES Osteotomy An osteotomy is a surgical procedure whereby a cut is made through a bone. The pieces of bone are then removed, or repositioned. Sometimes when the pieces are repositioned, they will no longer appear aligned. Notice the overlapping pieces of bone in the illustration. In time, new bone growth will fill in the areas that do not overlap. Lower limb and foot osteotomies will change the shape of the foot and reduce the pain originally created by the deformity.
