Description: Total Knee Replacement Advanced osteoarthritis (OA) is by far the main reason why people need total knee replacement surgery. Patients tend to be mostly between ages 55 and 75. Different types of inflammatory arthritis - particularly rheumatoid arthritis - can also severely damage knee cartilage and bone, as a result of chronic inflammation. These patients tend to be much younger, often in their thirties and forties.
