Description: Advances in arthroscopy during the last 30 years have specified new indications for elbow arthroscopy. Burman originally stated that the elbow was “unsuitable” for arthroscopic examination, but later retracted the statement when he was able to visualize the anterior compartment in a cadaveric study. In the 1970s, advances in arthroscopic equipment, such as smaller scopes, led to a renewed interest in elbow arthroscopy. This led to safer techniques in portal placement, technical advances in arthroscopic equipment, and an ever increasing number of elbow arthroscopies performed each year.
