Description: The human intervertebral disc is an amazing structure that while at first appearance seems simple and static is actually quite the opposite. Each disc articulates with a vertebral body above and below it and provides three crucial services to the spinal column: 1) To support the axial load on the column as it is delivered by body mass and gravity 2) to assist in range of motion at the spine and 3) to serve ligamental functions between vertebral bodies.
