Description: Dr. Dean G. Karahalios is a member of the medical staff of the Neurologic & Orthopedic Hospital of Chicago. He is widely recognized as an authority on the treatment of patients with complex spine conditions, and is particularly well known for his use of advanced technologies to treat patients with degenerative spine conditions, and traumatic injuries to the spine. He frequently uses image-guided technology and minimally invasive surgical techniques to reduce the risks of surgery and shorten the recovery time.
Dr. Karahalios attended medical school at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Illinois. After receiving his degree, Dr. Karahalios completed his residency training at the Barrow Neurological Institute, St. Joseph 's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. While at the Barrow Neurological Institute, Dr. Karahalios completed a fellowship in spinal surgery under Dr. Volker Sonntag.
Following his training, Dr. Karahalios practiced at Evanston Northwestern Hospital in Evanston, Illinois. In 2002, Dr. Karahalios moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where he was director of the Indiana Neurosciences Institute, and co-director of the Novalis radiosurgery project. Dr. Karahalios returned to Chicago in December 2004 and joined the Chicago Institute of Neurosurgery and Neuroresearch medical staff.
