Description: Tarsal tunnel syndrome (TTS) is the most common entrapment syndrome in the ankle.[1] TTS is caused by an entrapment of the posterior tibial nerve or its terminal branches, the medial, lateral, and calcaneal nerves, within the tarsal tunnel. In the ankle, the tarsal tunnel is located posterior and inferior to the medial malleolus and is formed by the laciniate ligament (flexor retinaculum). Causative factors of TTS include trauma with posttraumatic fibrosis, excessive pronation of subtalar joint, and tenosynovitis or ganglion formation affecting the nerve or the tendons.
