Description: Patient/Parent Information
This category of spinal deformity refers to an abnormal development (incomplete formation, or segmentation) in the spine which leads to abnormal kyphosis that may be progressive and severe. The angular deformity due to abnormal bone development in the spine may be quite significant and evolve rapidly during the first years of life. In very mild forms of congenital kyphosis treatment may be delayed, however many cases require prompt and thorough evaluation as well as surgical treatment. Bracing is unfortunately not considered an effective treatment for these kyphosis.
